Why I Became a Teacher

I first knew that I wanted to be a teacher as a young child. I would take the school bus from the school I attended to the inner city school where my mom was the Office Manager. She arranged for me to help in some of the classrooms. I remember teaching a young boy who had learning difficulties named Payne. He struggled with Math, mostly counting and addition. I helped him for a few days, a few hours at a time. I still remember the look in his eyes when he realized that 2 + 2 really does equal 4. It is etched into my heart and soul and I desire to continue to be a light to more and more children.

I have many attributes that assist me in being an exemplary educator. I am cheerful, bilingual in English and Spanish, professional, firm but loving and a really enjoy children. I know that each of these gifts that I have been given will help me on my path as a successful educator. I also know how to work hard, learn quickly and multi-task which will be helpful as I continue to learn and work on the other traits that I wish to obtain.

My long-term goal is to become an Elementary School Principal. I will start my career as a teacher in the classroom but I will go on to obtain my Masters Degree and also receive my Administration Credential. I know that the many leadership skills that I have will assist me in these goals. I hope to organize, encourage and motivate many more students, teachers, support staff and parents so that our children can realize their potential.
